How to find us
From the south:
- Exit the A1(M) at Junction 63
- Follow the A693 signposted 'Stanley' and Beamish Museum
- At the Beamish Museum roundabout continue forward up the hill
- At the top of the hill turn right following signposts to Gateshead and the A6076
- You will arrive at a junction with a petrol station on your left. Turn right
- South Causey is 300 yards along this road on your right
From the north:
- While traveling south on the A1 you will pass the Metro Centre on your left
- Follow signs for Consett on the A692
- You will pass through the village of Sunniside
- At the second set of traffic lights (with the Potters Wheel Public House on the left) turn left
- Follow this road for approx 3 miles
- The South Causey is on your left (before you reach the 30mph signs)

We have a fantastic antique and home accessories shop on-site at South Causey Inn. The shop is a treasure trove of unique and authentic products that are guaranteed to captivate and inspire. From quirky and weird to downright wonderful, the ever-changing inventory ensures that every visit is a delightful surprise!
Olive & Orchard
The grand opening of Olive & Orchard, a Hair & Beauty Salon, is right around the corner. Located at South Causey Inn, this salon is designed to cater to the needs of both hotel and wedding guests as well as external clients. Get ready to experience luxury and pampering like never before!
Pets Corner
We are thrilled to introduce our new Pets Corner, featuring a delightful array of animals including a pet Pony, Pygmy Goats, Valais Black Nose Sheep, Ducks, Chickens, and Mini Lop Rabbits. The perfect new area to bring the whole family for a fun day out.
Woodland Project
To launch this new exciting project of planting 33 thousand trees across our estate, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, Michael Poole, joined the North East Community Forest, volunteers and partners to plant a silver birch tree at South Causey Inn.
Tanfield Railway
All aboard the World's Oldest Railway! Take a steam train ride back in time at the Tanfield Railway for a 3-mile journey through the beautiful Causey Valley. Hauled by a lovingly restored industrial steam engine, you'll take a seat on a recreated colliery carriage.
Beamish Museum
A must-see!! Just a five-minute journey from the Inn. A living open-air museum, with a Victorian town, (with shops and even a pub!) farm, school and mine. Allow a full day to visit, and “Davey’s Fish Shop” serves traditional Fish n Chips served in Beef dripping.

England women will take on New Zealand in the first of a three match one-day series on Wednesday 26 June. The men’s one day team will make a welcome return to Chester le Street when they take on arch rivals Australia!
